Troy High School Warriors entered the confines of the Leon Davis Events Center with hopes of unseating the Heralds with a hidden trick. It did not go as planned.
In only their second home match of the season, the ladies of WCHS took it to Troy in a 3-1 match victory.
The girls started strong in the first set, keeping the Warriors off balance with a mixed attack, strong service game and deft defense. Makena Morrison and Tiffany Ta held the net in check with 3 kills apiece taking the set 25-15.
The second set went not as planned as the Heralds came out flat and Troy capitalized. However, the Heralds regrouped and as a testament to this young team and its trust in each other, the girls rallied to win the next two sets 25-17 and 25-15 to send Troy home with a loss.
Standouts of the game included Makena Morrison with 18 kills, 5 aces, and 10 digs. Tiffany Ta had her best game so far tallying 7 kills on 14 attempts and a .500 hitting %. Giselle Ramirez had 6 aces on the night, and Clare Jordan had 2. Haden Bones was solid at the net with 6 kills. Haley Gainer and Grace Ford added 4 kills apiece. In a final exclamation point, Bernice Preciado finished the game with a kill!
The girls are back in action on Thursday night at home against Los Altos.
