The Lady Heralds opened the Knight Time Classic at Ontario Christian with a 47-30 victory over Cal High Thursday evening. In a rematch from a little over 2 weeks ago, the Heralds defense set the tone in the first half as WCHS held a 25-3 lead at halftime. The Heralds offense stalled in the 3rd while the Condors got hot from long range and made 5 three pointers to trim the lead to 31-18 going into the final stanza. Point guard Joleen Corona scored 8 of her team high 10 points in the 4th quarter to help extend the lead. Corona dished out a team high 6 assists and had 5 steals. Forward Aidan Sherfey helped anchor the team defense with 2 blocked shots and sharing a team high 5 steals with Corona Sherfey also contributed 9 points to the winning effort. Guard Skylar Sherfey reignited the offense with a steal to begin the 4th period and scored the first 5 points to extend the lead back to 36-18 early in the quarter. Forward Juliette Corona’s solid defense led to 4 steals while going 3 of 6 from the field to score 6 points. Center Haley Gainer’s presence in the paint led to 8 offensive rebounds and a team high 9 boards for the game. Forward Amaya Norris returned to action after being out 3 weeks with an injury and hit both of her three point attempts to score 6 points while grabbing 4 rebounds and 2 steals. The Lady Heralds improve to 13-1 on the season and play Cobalt Institute Cougars at noon Friday at Ontario Christian.
