As the Labor Day weekend arrives, the visiting Lancers came to the Leon Davis Events Center on a Thursday evening to spar with the Heralds of Whittier Christian. In what is always an entertaining and loud environment, the two schools bring their best, and tonight was no different.
The first set was a battle with WC taking a mid set lead and the Lancers storming back to cut it close. But the Heralds finished off the set with a mighty kill from Makena Morrison to quiet the visiting crowd. Her 15 total kills for the match led the Heralds tonight. Set two started off much the same way, as the two teams traded great net play and concluded long points with exceptional rallies. Senior Nicole Tiffany led the set with 5 kills. Senior Hannah Tobin, who had a game high 26 digs, was solid on the back line with her defense. Junior Setter Clare Jordan got the ball to her hitters, and Senior Middle Blocker Amanda Risch prowled the net, stuffing La Serna’s hitter for two blocks.
In what ended up being the final set, the Heralds brought momentum from a comback win in the second, to dismantle the Lancers. Sophomore Setter Giselle Ramirez used a 10 point serving run to break open the set to which the Lancers could not respond. In the end, Senior DS, Lauren Rabago, solidfied the Heralds win by masterfully serving 6 straight points, including 1 ace.
Nicole Tiffany 10 kills, 6 digs, 1 ace, 2 blocks; Sarina Perez 4 kills, 1 block, 1 ace; Sierra Richardson 3 kills, 1 block; Makena Morrison 15 kills, 1 ace, 9 digs, 2 blocks; Lucy Jordan 3 kills, 2 digs; Amanda Risch 3 kills, 3 blocks
