The Boys Volleyball team has been on the road the last week and were in need of a home match. Tonight offered the perfect opportunity. On a rain soaked Thursday afternoon, the visiting Brea Wildcats drove the short distance to meet the Heralds who were sitting at 10-6 overall and ranked #9 overall in Division 5 in the latest CIF poll.
Continuing to work on their theme of communication and ball control, the Heralds found their chemistry on the court and handled the Wildcats in 3 sets. Everyone contributed to the win and Coach Morrison even experimented with some unique lineups. The boys from WC continue to look forward as their overall play speaks for itself.
Tonights notables include Sr. OH Blake Helvin with 17 kills and a block. Jr OH Hunter Morrison tacked on 11 kills and a block. Senior RS hitter Wyatt Smith added 4 kills and brought the crowd to its feet with a monster solo block in the 3rd set. Soph. MB Matt Heller continues to find his pace with 3 kills and 4 blocks. Jaydon Wagner, aka: Wags, improved his play and contributed 2 kills and 3 blocks. Libero Aaron Hernandez continues to shine and had a stellar defensive game, including dropping second touch sets to his hitters for kills. Jr Setter Brady Coleman was a master tonight putting up 38 sets while adding a pair of blocks and kills. The Heralds move to 11-6 overall.
Next Tuesdays home match versus La Mirada has been cancelled due to a decision made by the NLMUSD. Olympic League play will begin next Thursday, March 19 vs. Village Christian at the friendly confines of the Leon Davis Events Center on the WCHS campus.
