January 30th marked the second meeting of the regular season between the hosts WCHS herald soccer boys versus the visitors from Pasadena in Maranatha high school. A game that saw both teams came in riding on momentum from winning their previous games, a lot of tactical and technical “chess like” game moves was what decided the game.
The first half saw the host team take a 1:0 lead 15 minutes into the game when junior winger Isaac Williams scored off a corner kick taken by sophomore Aaron Hernandez. The goal from Isaac Williams seemed to have created momentum for the home team as they kept playing well. Maranatha’s goalkeeper did well enough to keep his team in the game especially after great chances from freshman Gianluca Ciribe, Junior Kevin Campbell and freshman Benjamin Bonilla come close to putting the game away but were dealt with.
The second period was a well balanced contested affair which saw both teams create chances. Both defenses did well to limit dangerous shots taken at their respective goal keepers. The game and momentum switched slightly in favor of the visitors with 5 minutes left in the second half as they kept pressing to find that elusive goal. With less than a minute left, the visitors got their equalizer off a missed clearance from a corner kick bringing the game to a 1:1 tie.
Next game will be an away match up against Village Christian High school.
