Today’s matchup was against the visitors from Village Christian High school with the Herald boys needing a positive result to keep their season a little interesting.

With the weather conditions a little on the dull & chilly side, the Herald boys found themselves trailing inside the first 5 minutes of play. Their dull start of the game resulted in the visitors rewarded a free kick that was headed in for a score of 0:1 in favor of Village Christian.

The goal seemed to have woke up the team as they now started getting a feel of the match. Senior captain defender Matthew Duran alongside his partner Junior Kai Barboza started tightening up the defense which seemed to have created a ripple effect throughout the team as passes started connecting and chances being created.

Almost midway through the first half, Junior Caleb Fulbright came off the bench with lots of positive energy. His energy and effort was rewarded with a close range goal off the initial save from the Village Christian goalkeeper from a shot off junior striker Kevin Campbell.

Tied 1:1 with 16 minutes left in the first half, Caleb Fulbright managed to put 2 more goals in the back of the net to complete his hatrick of the day. Leading 3:1, spirits were high as the Herald boys ensured the visitors didn’t get a chance to score another goal before half time.

The second half was a tightly contested affair as both teams fought hard and created numerous chances to try help their respective teams. Much of the battle was done in the middle of the pitch where senior captain Aiden Suk & junior captain Joseph Chung ensured they controlled & made it hard for Village Christian. Junior goalkeeper Elijah Camarena managed to produce some quality saves & made sure no more goals went in especially when the visitors had a little momentum going for them that saw them hit the crossbar twice.

10 minutes from the end of the match, Freshman Gianluca Ciribe managed to score to make the final tally 4:1 in favor of WCHS.

Overall it was good team win that boys desperately deserved. Shout out to Freshman defender Brandon Friesch for having a solid overall game.

Good stuff boys!
