The Herald Varsity Football team picked up their first win of the season (1-2) in a great win over Arrowhead Christian on Friday night at Whittier College. The game was the first one played on the new field there.
It was a back and forth defensive battle in the first half. Both teams were making it difficult to get in the end zone, but the Heralds broke through first with a 35 yard TD pass from Quinn Commans to Noah Sanchez with 17 seconds left. The Heralds took the 7-0 lead into halftime.
The same combination of Commans to Sanchez gave the Heralds a 13-0 lead early in the second half on a 20 yard strike, but Arrowhead Christian made it close (13-8) to end the third quarter. Commans hit Cole Muncie on a 51 yard TD pass to give the Heralds a 21-8 cushion in the 4th quarter, but Arrowhead closed the gap again to 21-14 and the Heralds defense had to tighten up to secure the win!
Herald Noah Sanchez led the defense with multiple sacks and forced fumbles.
The Heralds will next be in action at Bell High School in Los Angeles on Friday, September 15, for a 7:00 game. The Heralds will be back at home on Friday, September 22 (Whittier College) vs. Stellar Prep of the Bay Area.
