The Whittier Christian Heralds Baseball team opened up the Nipomo Easter Tournament with a 13-0 victory over Fremont Christian on Monday, as Chad Green and Justin Rohde combined to throw a shutout.
Joe Hernandez led Heralds to victory by driving in four runs. He went 2-for-3 at the plate. Hernandez drove in all of his runs on a grand slam in the fourth. Whittier Christian scored seven runs in the fourth inning. The Heralds offense in the inning was led by Alex Escobar, Elijah Camarena and Hernandez, who each had RBIs in the inning.
Chad Green was the winning pitcher for The Heralds. He went four innings, allowing zero runs on one hit, striking out four and walking one. Justin Rohde threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.
Whittier Christian launched two home runs on the day. Hernandez put one out in the fourth inning. Green had a long ball in the third inning.
The Heralds totaled 12 hits on the day. Parra and Hernandez each collected two hits to lead Whittier Christian. Camarena went 1 for 2 with 2 RBIs, Brian Greene was 1 for 1 with 2 walks and an RBI Double, Andrew White was also 1 for 1 with a double and a walk, Justine Rohde was 1 for 1, and Aaron Rojas was 1 for 1 with an RBI and 2 runs scored.
Whittier Christian continues in the Nipomo Easter Tournament on Tuesday with a 10:00 am game against Dunn High School.
