The Heralds baseball team played for the Championship of the Nipomo Easter Tournament. Whittier Christian grabbed an early lead on its way to a 7-2 victory over Elsinore on Thursday. WC scored on a single by Chad Green and an error in the first inning.

The Heralds scored three runs in the fourth inning. Wesley Ruiz and Joe Hernandez each had RBIs in the big inning.

Brian Greene led the Heralds to victory on the pitcher’s mound. He allowed five hits and two runs over four and a third innings, striking out five. Green threw two and two-thirds innings in relief out of the bullpen. Green recorded the last eight outs to earn the save. Green also led the Heralds with two hits in three at bats.

With the Championship the Heralds received many Tournament honors. Alex Escobar was named Most Outstanding Pitcher and Chad Green was named Tournament Most Outstanding Player. Additionally, Brian Greene, Joe Hernandez and Aledys Parra were named to the All-Tournament Team. Way to go Heralds.

The Heralds will resume Olympic League play on Tuesday, April 10 at home against Maranatha at 3:30 pm.
