Boys Varsity Basketball, Girls Varsity Basketball · Former Herald Athletic Director in a fight against Cancer!

Robert Aviles, former Herald athletic director and basketball coach, finds himself in a fight against cancer.  In fact, this is his second battle over the past three years.  Robert served as our Athletic Director and coached boys basketball from 1994 to 1999. He came back and assisted Coach Durham in the 2007-2008 basketball season.

You can read about Robert’s battle on the link below.  His battle is currently happening in Mexico and is not covered by the family insurance.  PLEASE BE IN PRAYER FOR ROBERT AND HIS FAMILY.  If you would like to help them financially, see the link below to a Go Fund Me account that has been set up to help with their medical expenses.

Boys Varsity Cross Country · Former Herald Ben White continues to shine in CC at Whittier College!

Congratulations to Ben White for continuing right where he left off as one of the top Cross Country runners in the area!  See the article below about Ben’s performance in the recent Biola Invitational.

Ben “laid down the law” Saturday at Riverside as well! Ben knocked 27 seconds off his PR time for a 25.43:9.  He’s now .9 seconds behind the all-time freshman record at Whittier College. Better yet, he’s now the number seven all-time 8K runner in his school’s history!

Way to go Ben!

Heralds News · Special Night to Recognize a Fallen Player…Ethan Hawks

Friday night, September 8th, was more than a football game for the Heralds.  The pregame activities gave us a chance to remember the life of Ethan Hawks… #75.  Ethan was tragically killed last year and was not able to play in his senior year of football this year.

Before the game against Arrowhead Christian we were able to honor his memory and have his mother Kat Hawks, and father Steve Hawks with us.  Mr. Hawks was even given the privilege of doing the coin toss.

We truly thank God for giving us Ethan for his time at Whittier Christian and we will not forget him.

Boys Junior Varsity Football, Boys Varsity Football · Herald Football to support Touchdowns Against Cancer again in 2017 season!

In 2016 the Herald Football team joined the fight against childhood cancer in the brand new national campaign called Touchdowns Against Cancer.  This was a joint effort between Max Preps and St. Jude Hospital along with many high schools across the nation.

The Heralds went after it hard in honor of Abbey Schemmer (who would have been a senior this past year, but passed away from cancer).  It was an honor to support the Schemmer family, and the Heralds rose to the top of the campaign and were the largest fundraiser in the entire nation!  The Herald family raised over $11,000 last season and we represented ALL high schools in presenting a check to St. Jude Hospital for over $100,000 during halftime of one of our home games.  The Schemmer family was there with us to make the presentation and it was a special night for sure!

The cause is still here, and the Heralds are going for it again!  PLEASE JOIN US!!!

Below are two links.  One is to our NEW Touchdowns Against Cancer site (TO MAKE A PLEDGE), and the other is a link to the TAC website showing the Heralds as the NATIONAL CHAMPIONS THIS PAST SEASON.

For the coming season the three games that will count toward this effort will be vs. Bell High on 9/15, vs. Stellar Prep on 9/22, and vs. Marina High on 9/29.  Every TD we score during those three games will count as dollars raised.  READ BELOW AND JOIN OUR FIGHT!

Heralds News · Former Herald Raye Smith in Demolition Derby!

Former Herald Song Captain Raye Smith (class of 2016) showed a bit of her “destructive side” as she was the lone female in the Destruction Derby event at the Orange County Fair!  Raye was chosen as the “Fan Favorite” in the event, and her dad came in 3rd place overall!

Raye’s PINK #17 car (with glitter) was sponsored by our friends at NXTLVL gym in La Habra.

Nice work Raye…now PLEASE stay out of our student parking lot!!!

Boys Junior Varsity Football, Boys Varsity Football · Heralds Playing for a Fallen Teammate in 2017

Last November was a time that the Herald family will not soon forget.  Ethan Hawks lost his life in a horrible accident on the 57 freeway when a piece of metal shot through the windshield of the car.  He fought for multiple days in the hospital but did not survive.

As the Heralds prepare for the 2017 season, there is a reminder up in the weight room of Ethan.  Ethan was a beast in the weight room and his jersey is an inspiration to the Herald players and coaches.

The Heralds loved Ethan and continue to love the Hawks family.  The Hawks family will ALWAYS be welcome on our sideline!  We will honor Ethan’s memory by playing the season with great energy and enthusiasm…just how Ethan played!
