The Heralds fought a tough battle against the South Hills Huskies (West Covina). The Heralds avoided a shut out when Quarterback Maverick Hoefflin (11) connected with Slot receiver Johnny Lopez (3) for a touchdown in the final minutes of the fourth quarter.
Next up for the Heralds is a home game Saturday, September 9, 2017, at 11:00 am., against the Arrowhead Christian Eagles. Come out and support Herald football.

Heralds Get First Win of the Season!
The WCHS Heralds Girls Varsity Volleyball team went five sets tonight with local rival school La Serna HS. The first set of the match was a preview of the battle that lasted nearly 2 hours and went to five sets with the Heralds pulling out their first victory of the year.
The Heralds were led tonight by Sophomore, Brea Rutledge who led the team with a season high 26 kills. She also followed up with 2 blocks and a series of athletic digs to keep the team in the play.
Junior setter, Robyn Blaine held her own tonight as well finishing with a season high 45 assists, 12 digs and 2 aces. Junior Libero, Hannah Tobin, held the defense together with a season high 20 digs and Junior Middle Blocker, Sarina Perez had a season high 5 kills and 1 solo block as she owned the net.
The girls team will be on their team retreat this weekend with their next opponent, Palm Desert, traveling to the Leon Davis Events Center on Tuesday, September 5 in a rematch of last year.

Brea Rutledge had 8 kills, followed by Conley Harris with 6 and Nicole Tiffany and Sierra Richardson had 4 apiece. The Heralds have their home opener on Tuesday vs. Brea-Olinda at the Leon Davis Events Center.

Game Recap

The Whittier Christian Heralds visited the Knights of Katella High School in the second round of the Division 4 CIF Southern Section Playoffs. The Knights were ranked #1 in the matchup. The Heralds were seeded as the #17. The Heralds were able to take game one (25-22), then the Knights were able to adjust and finish out the next three games (18-25, 23-25, 18-25). The Heralds competed well in each game and there was so much excitement in the gym. The Heralds finished out their season with a great record and look forward to building on this experience for next season. Congrats to both teams on a competitive game.

Game Recap

The Heralds Baseball Team completed league play on Senior Day today with an exciting walk off win against the Village Christian Crusaders. The final score was 5-4.

The Crusaders got out to an early 3-0 lead, but in the bottom of the 2nd, Isaiah Carreon scored a run for the Heralds after walking, Matt White singled down the right field line. Carreon the stole 3rd base and scored on Justin Granados grounder to short. The Crusaders then got the run back in the top of the 3rd inning. In the 5th inning, the Heralds scored 2 big runs to only be down 4-3. Carl Hudson walked with 1 out and went to second on Nate Johnson’s sacrifice bunt. Matt Salas then hit a single and stole second base, to put runners at 2nd and 3rd with 2 outs. Julian Gonzalez then hit a ball in the infield that the shortstop made a play to get Julian at first but he was safe. On the play both Hudson and Salas scored. In the 6th inning the Heralds had bases loaded and 1 out and couldn’€™t score. Meanwhile, Josh Hernandez came in to pitch the 6th and 7th innings and didn’t allow a run. In the 7th inning, with 1 out, Julian Gonzalez singled to left field and stole 2nd base. Josh Hernandez then walked. With runners on first and second, Isaiah hit a deep ball to straight away center field over the fielder’s head, Gonzalez scored with ease and Hernandez scored all the way from first base on a close play at the plate for the walk off win.

Alex Escobar got the start for the Heralds going 3 innings with 5 hits, 3 ER, 2Ks and 1 BB. Adrian Monney went 2 innings with 1 hit, 2K sand no runs. Josh Hernandez got the win going the last 2 innings giving up 1 hit with 1K and 0 BBs. On offense, the Heralds were led by Matt Salas (2 for 4, 1 run scored), Julian Gonzalez (2 for 4, 2 RBIs and 1 run scored) and Isaiah Carreon (I for 2, 2B, 2 BB, 2 RBIs and 1 run scored). Also getting hits on Senior Day were Justin Granados, and Matt White. Defensively, both Colin Kociela and Julian Gonzalez and several running catches to stop scoring threats.

Congratulations to all the Heralds players on a great season, and especially our Seniors, we will miss them.

The Whittier Christian Heralds Baseball team continued league play against the Valley Christian Crusaders, for the third and final time of the year. The Heralds pulled out a big win late recording a 5-1 victory.

The Heralds were down 1-0 going into the 6th inning, but finished the inning up 4-1. Alex Escobar led off the 6th inning with a single, and scored on a double by Matt Salas, to tie the score. Julian Gonzalez moved to third with a sacrifice bunt down third, moving Salas to third base. With 2 outs and Salas on third, Isaiah Carreon fouled off 4 pitches before singling to left scoring Salas and giving the Heralds the 2-1 lead. Brian Greene then singled on the first pitch he saw. Carreon and Greene advanced to third and second after a pass ball and then both scored on a bloop single by Joe Hernandez, giving the Heralds the 4-1 lead. In the top of the 7th inning, the Heralds struck again. With 2 outs, Matt Salas walked and stole second base. Julian Gonzalez then bunted down third base for a bunt single, advancing Salas to third base. Gonzalez stole second with Josh Hernandez at the plate, the Hernandez followed with a bunt single scoring Salas from third and advancing Gonzalez to third. During the confusion of the play, Gonzalez attempted to score, however was thrown out at the plate to end the inning.

Alex Escobar was masterful on the mound with a complete game victory, giving up 1 run, 5 hits and no walks while striking out 4. Escobar was also 1 for 3 at the plate with a run scored to help his own cause. Matt Salas was 1 for 2, with a Double, 2 runs scored and 2 walks, Brian Green was 1 for 3 with a run scored, Joe Hernandez was 1 for 3 with 2 RBIs, Josh Hernandez was 1 for 4 with 1 RBI. Also, Julian Gonzalez was 1 for 4 and Isaiah Carreon was 1 for 3 with 1 RBI and a run scored.

The Heralds finish up Olympic League play next week against Village Christian on Tuesday and Friday. Senior Day will be held on Friday, May 5th.
