The Heralds Baseball Team completed league play on Senior Day today with an exciting walk off win against the Village Christian Crusaders. The final score was 5-4.
The Crusaders got out to an early 3-0 lead, but in the bottom of the 2nd, Isaiah Carreon scored a run for the Heralds after walking, Matt White singled down the right field line. Carreon the stole 3rd base and scored on Justin Granados grounder to short. The Crusaders then got the run back in the top of the 3rd inning. In the 5th inning, the Heralds scored 2 big runs to only be down 4-3. Carl Hudson walked with 1 out and went to second on Nate Johnson’s sacrifice bunt. Matt Salas then hit a single and stole second base, to put runners at 2nd and 3rd with 2 outs. Julian Gonzalez then hit a ball in the infield that the shortstop made a play to get Julian at first but he was safe. On the play both Hudson and Salas scored. In the 6th inning the Heralds had bases loaded and 1 out and couldn’t score. Meanwhile, Josh Hernandez came in to pitch the 6th and 7th innings and didnât allow a run. In the 7th inning, with 1 out, Julian Gonzalez singled to left field and stole 2nd base. Josh Hernandez then walked. With runners on first and second, Isaiah hit a deep ball to straight away center field over the fielder’s head, Gonzalez scored with ease and Hernandez scored all the way from first base on a close play at the plate for the walk off win.
Alex Escobar got the start for the Heralds going 3 innings with 5 hits, 3 ER, 2Ks and 1 BB. Adrian Monney went 2 innings with 1 hit, 2K sand no runs. Josh Hernandez got the win going the last 2 innings giving up 1 hit with 1K and 0 BBs. On offense, the Heralds were led by Matt Salas (2 for 4, 1 run scored), Julian Gonzalez (2 for 4, 2 RBIs and 1 run scored) and Isaiah Carreon (I for 2, 2B, 2 BB, 2 RBIs and 1 run scored). Also getting hits on Senior Day were Justin Granados, and Matt White. Defensively, both Colin Kociela and Julian Gonzalez and several running catches to stop scoring threats.
Congratulations to all the Heralds players on a great season, and especially our Seniors, we will miss them.
