Heralds News · HERALDS GIRLS VOLLEYBALL ON TO CIF-SS PLAYOFFS

The Heralds Girls Varsity Volleyball team finished up their 2019 campaign this past week, finishing the season with an overall record of 19-15, 4-4 in the Olympic League and a birth in the CIF-SS Div. 4 Playoffs.  By 10:00am Saturday, the brackets had been released and the Heralds will face-off this Thursday, Oct. 24 with cross-town rival La Serna at 6:00pm.

In what has become an increasingly heated and competitive rivalry, the two teams have already met once this season with the Lancers scraping by the Heralds in a 5-set battle.  Since then, the Heralds have faced a much tougher schedule in the Olympic League and competing at various tournaments.  This will be the second time in three seasons that the Heralds and Lancers will meet in the playoffs.  The last time, both teams were playing in Div. 5, with the Heralds traveling to La Serna.  On that occasion, WCHS was able to come out on top.

Whittier Christian is led by a tight knit group of girls who find ways to compete and win.  Senior Captain/Setter, Clare Jordan, continually shows her leadership on and off the floor in maintaining a fun environment that is positive, promotes teamwork and asks each player to give their best efforts.  Sophomore, Makena Morrison, continues to be the go-to for the Heralds.  Sophomores Haden Bones and Grace Ford continue to show their volleyball prowess on the court.  Junior Setter, Giselle Ramirez and Junior Libero, Lauren Altuna, are stalwarts on the team and are critical pieces to a run in CIF.  Tiffany Ta (JR) and Haley Gainer (JR), OPP, hold down the right side of the net with strong play. Katy Verbeck (SR) and Bernice Preciado (JR) are key role players, with Lauren Buckner (SR) a presence in the middle.  Junior MB Madi Curby is still working back from an injury early in the season.

The Girls Volleyball Team would like to invite all fans, young and old alike, to bring a large crowd this Thursday 10/24, to La Serna.  Let’s make this a “home game” that just happens to be away!  The “ZONE” will be there in full force and is sure to provide energy and loudness.  Thank you for all your support so far this season!  We hope to see you this Thursday at 6:00pm at La Serna HS.
