Girls Varsity Tennis · Heralds Tennis Performs Well In Olympic League Tournament

It was a beautiful day Wednesday as the Heralds hosted the Olympic League Tennis Tournament. The best of the league were there representing their schools and all were ready to fight for their opportunity to continue on to CIF. The league tournament is played at the end of every season to determine which players from the league will continue on individually to represent the league at the CIF tournament.

The Heralds had 5 players that qualified for this years tournament. Seniors Hawoo Shim, Kayla Koba, and Eliana Williams all qualified in singles and the doubles team of Rachel Kosaka andMonet Munoz qualified on the doubles side. All 5 girls performed very well and did a great job of representing Whittier Christian.

Williams and Shim both did an outstanding job in the first round but were unable to pull out the win. We are so proud of them! Kayla Koba, the #6 seed, had a fantastic day as she defeated #3 seeded Stella Wang (8-4) from Maranatha in the first round. She then moved on to face #2 seeded Malena Smith where she put up an amazing fight. Kayla will play today in the 3rd place match against Kailani Kane from Valley Christian.

The doubles team of Kosaka and Munoz were seeded #5 and played great in the first round. They defeated the #4 seeded team from Valley Christian (8-3) to move on to the second round where they faced the #1 seed from Maranatha. Overall it was a great match and Kosaka and Munoz will play today in the 3rd round match.

Matches start at 2pm today at the La Mirada Tennis Center. This is the final day of the Olympic League Tournament as the championship and 3rd place matches wrap up.
