Boys Varsity Basketball · Herald Boys Basketball Stays Alive for a CIF Playoff Spot!

The Herald Boys Varsity Basketball team had to fight for every point against a great team from Valley Christian on February 9th.  The Heralds and the Crusaders finished league play in a tie for 3rd place, which forced a “play in” game for the automatic bid into the playoffs.  The Crusaders had just defeated the Heralds three days earlier on their home court.

The game was really close most of the way until Valley pulled ahead by 11 late in the 3rd quarter.  Coach Durham called a timeout and “reminded” the boys that this would be their final game in the Herald uniform unless they gave it everything they had to finish it out.  The Heralds went immediately on an 11-0 run to tie the game at the end of the third quarter!

The 4th quarter was a back-and-forth battle that saw the Crusaders leading most of the way.  Some big shots and free throws by the Heralds put us in front by 1 point with 18 seconds to play.  When the Crusaders turned the ball over, the Heralds had to protect the ball for the final seconds to pull out a 57-56 victory!

Lorenzo Zamorano led the Heralds with 13 points and 3 rebounds.  Erik Sheets pitched in 11 points, 5 boards and 2 assists.  Quinn Commans had 9 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists.  Ryan Romero had 7 points and 3 boards.  Cade McGee and Anthony Constantino each had 6 points, and Jake Williams added 5.

The Heralds will now find out the CIF bracket on Sunday at 1:00 pm.  The first game will most likely be on the road on Wednesday, February 14.  Stay tuned for the news on Twitter @HeraldAthletics.

Nice work boys!
