The Whittier Christian Lady Heralds overcame a slow start and defeated the Maranatha Minutemen 50-46 to win the opening league game for both teams. After falling behind 12 points in the first quarter the Lady Heralds roared back in the 2nd quarter out scoring Maranatha 23-7 to go into half time with a four point lead. A trio of Heralds led the way in scoring. Sophomore Kayla Solomon tallied 14 points while making 4 of her 5 free throws. Solomon also grabbed 6 rebounds and had 2 steals. Sophomore Shelly Vasquez also had 14 points to go along with 7 rebounds, 2 assists, and 3 steals. Freshmen Juliette Corona made all 3 of her 3 point attempts and finished in double figures with 12 points while tracking down 5 rebounds and team high 4 steals. Junior Clairessa Watkins had a team high 12 rebounds to go along with 7 points. The Lady Heralds go on the road with a game at Heritage Christian at 5:30 pm on Friday evening. The Heralds are 15-3 for the season and 1-0 in Olympic league play.
