Game Recap

February 3, 2017 marked senior day for the Herald boys soccer team as the team got the opportunity to recognize the soccer accomplishments of four seniors: Matthew White, Marc Brie, Matthew Pelayo and Jared Gritters. Amid the days festivities, there was still a game to be played between the visiting Village Christian high school and the hosts WCHS.

The game started off a little sluggish with not much action from either side in the first 20 minutes. Due to sudden weather change, both teams were still trying to find a way to adjust playing in the rainy conditions they found themselves in. After exchanging a couple of shots on goal, sophomore winger Isaac Williams became the receipient of a pass from fellow sophomore Caleb Fulbright of which he rifled in his first goal of the season from close range. Both teams were able to exchange a few more shots before the half time whistle was blown with the home team up 1 – 0.

During the halftime period, the four seniors were presented to the fan base as they got to be applauded for their effort & service these past couple of seasons.

The start of the second half saw a slight change in game formation for the home team as they sought an insurance goal in order to put the game away. The teams played out a couple of chances with both teams getting good opportunities of shots on goal that were well saved by both goal keepers. With less than 5 minutes left in the game, senior Marc Brie got the opportunity to slot in his first goal of the year from close range. The assist was credited to junior captain Aiden Suk after a mis-kick on goal.

After the final whistle was blown, relief and excitement were the ideal emotions from the home team as they managed to keep a clean sheet as well as finish the game with no serious injuries suffered on any the players.

Next up for the Herald boys soccer is an away match up against the same team on Monday February 6, 2017 in Sun Valley, California.
