Coach Esslinger has been a part of the WCHS staff for the past 7 years. He came to us with over 34 years in Christian Education as a former teacher, coach and principal. Rolland graduated from Biola University with a degree in physical education, so his job as athletic director brings him back to what he loves! Rolland has been married to his beautiful wife Angie for 32 years, and together they have three grown children…Taryne (WCHS class of 2005), Brett (WCHS class of 2008), and Ryan (WCHS class of 2014). When he is not watching the Heralds play 18 different sports, he loves to play golf, go on movie/dinner dates with Angie, listen to Taryne lead worship at Whittier Area Community Church, watch Brett coach football or basketball at WCHS, and watch Ryan play college football at Arizona Christian University! GO HERALDS!
Coach Nicolaides comes to WCHS from Clarks Summit University in Clarks Summit, PA where she played two years of collegiate soccer before transferring to Biola University where she played two years of tennis. She graduated from Biola in 2002 with a degree in Physical Education. She also graduated from Concordia University in 2016 with an M.A in Coaching and Athletic Administration. Miss Nicolaides has been the Varsity Girls Tennis coach at WCHS for 12 years and has previously coached Varsity Girls Soccer Coach for 4 years. In addition, Nicole is also the Advisor to the Swim program. She currently teaches PE and Photography and is the assistant in the Athletic Office as well. Coach Nicolaides was the Area Coach of the Year twice for girls tennis (2012 and 2014). In her spare time, she loves to travel, go to Dodgers and Ducks games, concerts, and hang out with friends and family.
This is Coach Esslinger’s second year as our Strength Coordinator. He has also served seven years as a football coach at Whittier Christian. He started as an assistant coach on JV, coaching quarterbacks. He then took the head coaching position of the JV football team. This is Brett’s second year on the varsity staff serving as the offensive coordinator. Brett also is the JV head coach for the boys basketball program. Brett is a Whittier Christian High School alumni, graduating in 2008. He played football for Whittier Christian for four years as a Quarterback. He also played basketball and baseball while he was at Whittier Christian. Coach Esslinger graduated college from Cal State Fullerton with a degree in Kinesiology. He is currently a teacher at Whittier Christian High School, teaching Health, Weight Lifting, and Physical Education. While he coaches and teaches, Brett is also working on his masters degree at Hope International University.
Dr. Walburn comes to WCHS from Ogallala Nebraska, from where he joined the U.S. ARMY for 9 years. Dr. Walburn moved to California in 1986 to pursue a career in Chiropractics. He graduated from SCU, also known as LACC, in 1994. He began working on athletes right out of school and hasn’t stopped since. He has been following a path of sports injury, from helping AYSO and Pop Warner kids all the way to treating Olympic athletes. He has served as team doctor for several high schools in the LA area. Dr. Walburn has been Whittier Christian’s team doctor for the last four years, working with all of the athletes at WC. In Addition, Dr. Walburn has four children; Desiree, a high school history teacher, Anthony who is a senior at Cal state Fullerton, Holly who is also a senior at Cal State Fullerton, and Wesley who is a sophomore at Fullerton J.C. Dr. Walburn is has also been involved in BSA, for the last 15 year. He now serves as a Eagle Advisor at the district level. In his spare time he loves to back pack, go watch his Anaheim Ducks play and hang out with his kids and two grandsons, Dean and Bruce.
